Day 1 – Travel

After waking up at 4 am, stopping in Dallas, Miami, and Buenos Aires, we arrived in Montevideo 24 hours later. Let’s just say, only three hours of sleep made us go a little crazy! Once settled in at the hotel, we went for a jog on the beach and walked along the waterfront by our hotel. Afterwards, we ventured into the town for an interesting dinner, where Kyla was served pasta garnished with flies, but she ate it because of its protein content…

It was a glorious day to play hockey, the sun was shining, we had an extra hour of sleep (daylights savings – fall back), our cheering contingent was large, and we were playing Argentina!
 
Coaches Robin D´Abreo, Andi Shannon and Sarah Saddler had prepared the young Canadian girls well, and the team stepped onto the pitch with confidence and excitement.  The team attacked their opponents from the opening whistle, and put the Argentines on their heels…

Canada defeats Paraguay in Women’s Youth Championship opener

The Canadian national under-17 women’s team soundly defeated Paraguay 12-0 Saturday afternoon in their opening match of the Women’s Pan American Youth Championship. 

Canada controlled throughout the match demonstrating great team work.  The defense, mid field and the attack worked perfectly. They also showed great strength in corners, with a show of options at the time of scoring.

Madeline Secco, Shannon Herold, Alex McCawley, Lauren Annable, Emma Plasteras, Sarah Keglowitsch, Hannah Haughn, and Sara McManus all scored for Canada…

At the Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010 in Delhi, Germany topped Pool A by beating New Zealand (5-2) while The Netherlands fell to Korea (1-2). The semi-finals will oppose Germany to England, and Australia to the Netherlands.

At the beginning of the last day of pool play, everything could still happen in pool A with four teams (Netherlands, Germany, Korea and New Zealand) still mathematically able to earn a semi-final berth depending on the combination of results!

At the Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010 in Delhi, England suffered their first defeat of the competition at the hands of Spain (0-2) and Australia grabbed the lead of pool B with their victory over Pakistan (2-1), while South Africa produced another excellent performance to tie India (3-3).

At the Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010 in Delhi, Germany and The Netherlands played to a 2-2 tie that puts them at the top of Pool A, while Korea dominated Canada (9-2) and Argentina earned their first win of the competition over New Zealand (1-0).
