Practise Match Against the Chilean U-17 Team
After watching Aaron’s Aussie comedy last night, today came to us with an early rise at 7:30 am. Preparing for today’s game we ate the routine breakfast consisting of cereal, fruit, eggs, pancakes and omelettes. A Hard Day – Determined to Do Better
On Day 6, we started the morning off with a lovely swim in possibly the coldest hotel pool in the world to wake us up.
After that we had a great breakfast with fresh omelets and pancakes.
Later that day, we went to practice to find the Chilean team watching us enter the sports complex from their hotel porches. Part way through our practice, the Mexican team showed up to their practice but were a bit early and started to watch us play…

The heavy rain fall throughout the day didn’t seem to slow the ball down much for the Argentines who came out hard from the starting whistle. Amanda Stone (BC) was called on very early to make some difficult saves. The first corner and goal of the game was awarded to Argentina in the 8th minute of play where a direct shot was blasted past the Canadian corner unit into the far corner. With the Canadian backfield under tremendous pressure, a fast free play action resulted in a great reverse stick shot and secured the second goal for Argentina…
FH athletes received $85k in CIS scholorships
CIS schools provided over $85k to field hockey athletes in 2008-09

Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced on Monday the findings of its data collection on athletic scholarships provided by Canadian universities during the course of the 2008-09 academic year.
The data reveals that in ‘08-09 Canadian universities together provided $9,997,758 in athletic scholarship money to CIS student-athletes.
57 field hockey athletes, or 24% of eligible athletes in the sport, received a combined amount of $85,996 in 2008-2009…

Our first free day to explore Hermosillo, Mexico
First we had an amazing breakfast at our hotel that included scrambled eggs and freshly cooked pancakes.
Then our drivers ( Luis, Alex, Fernando) drove us around the city.
Our first stop was an old prison near the bottom of Bell Mountain. Even though the prison was closed we were still allowed to go inside and explore around. Inside we went into old jail cells and than into this underground hole…

Match Against Senior Sonora State University Team
Our third day here started out bright and early and cold (9 c).
After getting set to put our first load of laundry into the wash we went for a team swim where we participated in aerobics in the pool. Maybe we weren’t all that compliant but did you feel how cold it was? We spent much of the swim running away from Big Alv who was attempting to make us get in the deep end of the ever freezing hotel pool…

With a little bit of a west coast rain fall before the match began, the Canadians felt right at home and ready to compete against the highly ranked Argentina national squad. The Canadians were determined to play their own style of hockey and minimize turnovers to maintain possession. With a few scrambles in the beginning of the first half, the Canadians began to settle down and really show that they can compete.
The Argies were, however, able to score off a free play opportunity in the 24th minute that began from a baseline run on the right side…
