Ontario native Kate Gillis is happy to have made the decision to move back to Vancouver after playing her first collegiate season at Boston College. The big decision was made in order to prioritize training with the Canadian national team in hopes of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in Argentina and participating in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.
After her first series against Chile in 2007, Gillis was already establishing herself as a threat on the front line and was later selected to tour South Africa, San Diego, Russia and experience being a host participant in the Olympic Qualifier in 2008…

Field Hockey Canada and men’s national team head coach Alan Brahmst today announced the team of 18 players who will represent Canada at the 12th World Cup of Hockey to be held in Delhi, India February 29th – March 13th. The announcement comes two days prior to Canada’s final preparation matches versus the United States on February 13th & 14th in California.
Canada will be led by national team veterans Rob Short of Tsawwassen, British Columbia, Ken Pereira of Unionville, Ontario, and Paul Wettlaufer of North Vancouver…

The Canadian men’s national under-17 team defeated Chile 3-1 Monday evening in their second match of the Men’s Pan American Youth Championship in Hermosillo, Mexico.
Gabriel Ho-Garcia scored two goals to lead Canada to victory. Christopher Roydhouse opened the scoring on a penalty corner in the 39th minute.
Chile would eventually get on the score sheet in the 68th minute however it would not be enough as Canada moves to 2-0 in the tournament…

The Canadian senior men’s national team defeated the United States for the second time in as many days with a 3-0 shutout victory Monday morning in Chula Vista, California. Scott Tupper, Philip Wright, and Dave Jameson all scored for Canada.
Tupper, of Vancouver, opened the scoring in the 26th minute on a well executed penalty corner. Wright doubled the lead four minutes into the start of the second half.
Jameson sealed the victory with a field goal in the final minute of the game…

The Canadian men’s national field hockey team defeated the United States 2-0 Sunday afternoon in their first of a four test match series in California.
Keegan Pereira and Dave Jameson scored the goals for Canada.
Game one was suppose to be played Saturday afternoon but was cancelled due to heavy rain.
Canada next plays the US on Monday morning.

The Canadian men’s national under-17 team defeated Mexico 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the opening match of the first ever Men’s Pan American Youth Championship.
The first half was a tough fought match with Mexico absorbing Canada’s
attacks and then mounting counter attacks. Canada’s defensive was
solid, allowing Canada’s goalie to go untested during the first half.

Canadian National Jersey Presentation From the Coaches
Today we were allowed to sleep in until 10:30, which allowed us to catch up on our sleep.
We had our usual pancake and omelette breakfast. CJ missed the team breakfast because he had to go to the hospital. Steacy and Amanda wanted to have CJ’s leg injury from yesterdays practise checked out by a doctor.
We had a few hours break until practice. A few of us watched a Russel Peters movie in Big Alv’s room…

Practice, Practice, Practice and Then More Practice
Today the team woke up for a nine o’ clock swim. Since some of the players had mild sickness, they were told to take a walk on the treadmill as an alternative. After the swim/walk, we once again had breakfast at the hotel restaurant.
Once we filled ourselves up on breakfast we made our way to our twelve o’ clock practice. This was our third to last practice and we made sure that we practiced with intensity…

Throughout the three game series the Canadians faced the Argentinian World Cup Squad who rotated all 28 players, which gave them fresh legs and put constant pressure on the Canadians.
In the final game of the 3 game series, the Argentines came out strong and beat the Canadians by a score of 4-1.
Argentina found the circle early and received the first corner of the game in the 4th minute. The initial pc shot was saved by Azelia Liu (Ont), however, the rebound went to a wide open Argentinian who slotted it passed a diving Liu…
