FIH names WorldHockey All Star Teams 2009

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) released on Thursday the names of the 2009 Men’s and Women’s WorldHockey All Star Teams. As with the previous four editions, only the best players in the world were selected.
Among the very best was Tsawwassen, British Columbia native Rob Short.

Katie Baker Named to Pan American Elite Team

Katie Baker, the Prince Edward Island Native, has been recognized as a Pan American All-star after being named to the Pan American Elite Team. Every two years the Pan American Hockey Federation selects the best of the best to create an eighteen member all star roster. The federation announced both the 2009 women’s and men’s teams this December.

World Cup pools announced by FIH

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) released on Tuesday the pools for the men’s 2010 Hero Honda FIH World Cup.
Hero Honda FIH World Cup, 28 February-13 March 2010:
Pool A: Germany, Netherlands, Korea, New Zealand, Canada, Argentina.
Pool B: Australia, Spain, England, Pakistan, India, South Africa.
The match schedule for the Hero Honda FIH World Cup will be released before the end of December 2009.
Canada qualified for the World Cup by winning the 2009 Pan American Cup last February…
Coalition forms to rally for team sports in Canada

The large majority of Canadians who participate in sport do so as part of a team. Yet only 17 per cent of the government’s core athletic funding goes to team sport organizations.

Men’s Pan Am Youth Championship team announced

The 2010 Men’s U17 Pan American Youth Championship Team has been announced. Congratulations to the following athletes who will represent Canada at the first ever Youth Olympic Qualifier, held February 6-14, 2010 in Hermosillo, Mexico. Field Hockey BC earned the right to send two teams to represent Canada at the Pan American Youth Championships by winning the Gold Medal at both the Girls and Boys Canadian Under 16 National Championships this past summer…
Belgium defeats Canada in final CC1 Match

The Canadian men’s national field hockey team were defeated by Belgium 2-0 Sunday morning in Salta, Argentina. It was Canada’s final match of the 2009 International Hockey Federation (FIH) Champions Challenge. Canada finishes in eighth place.

China defeats Canada at Champions Challenge

The Canadian men’s national field hockey team were defeated by China 3-1 Saturday morning in Salta, Argentina. It was Canada’s first match of the 5-8 classification round in the 2009 International Hockey Federation (FIH) Champions Challenge.

The Canadian men’s national field hockey team defeated Argentina 3-2 Thursday afternoon in Salta, Argentina. It was Canada’s third and final pool game of the 2009 International Hockey Federation (FIH) Champions Challenge after losses to Pakistan and South Africa earlier in the week.
With Argentina already through to the semi-finals, the match was not of the outmost importance, but a game between the two Pan American rivals is always hotly contested and this one was no exception…
