Field Hockey Canada and head coach Louis Mendonca released on Wednesday the names of 27 players who will form Canada’s national women’s training squad preparing for their FIH World Cup Qualifier in 2010.
The announcement comes at the end of a national training camp held in Vancouver over the weekend that saw dozens of athletes showcase their skills for the national coaching staff.
British Columbia is the most represented on the squad with 19 athletes…

A busy October for the Canadian men’s national team concluded last weekend with back to back victories over the United States at their training facility on the University of British Columbia campus. The University of British Columbia Thunderbirds captured the 2009 CIS National Championship on Sunday afternoon with a 6-0 victory over Alberta Pandas. The win gives UBC a record 12 McCrae Cup championships.
Canadian national team athlete Abigail Raye scored two goals on route to the victory.
Earlier in the day tournament hosts Victoria Vikes defeated the Guelph Gryphons 2-1 to claim the bronze medal.

The CIS/FHC National Championship continued on Saturday with Day 3 of the competition:
Game 8: Alberta Pandas defeated Victoria Vikes 2-1
Game 9: UBC Thunderbirds defeated Toronto Varsity Blues 4-1
Game 10: Alberta Pandas defeated Guelph Gryphons 2-1
Alberta will battle UBC in the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 pm PST.

The City of Toronto has been awarded the right to host the 2015 Pan American Games. The decision was announced Friday afternoon by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Field Hockey Canada President Mary Cicinelli and Field Hockey Ontario President Ann Doggett were both present at the Toronto bid headquarters for the announcement.

Committee have released the names of former Olympians and 2010 hopefuls
who will be participating in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay across
Canada. Among the names are some familiar faces to the field hockey
community including a three-time Olympian, a pair of two-time
Olympians, and five other individuals who have represented the national
